Bukti Pembinaan Kilang Panel Solar Yang Bakal Mengeluarkan Sisi Toksik Merbahaya Yang Dibuat Tanpa Mengambil Kira Rakyat...

KUALA LUMPUR: A former member of parliament for Batu Kawan claimed the solar photovoltaic (PV) plant project was kept under wraps by DAP-led Penang government without public consultation.

Huan Cheng Guan who is now a vice president of Parti Cinta Malaysia said people in the constituency are in the dark over the approved project and they do not know of its potential hazard.

“There was no consultation about this project at all. (Penang Chief Minister) Lim Guan Eng has this habit of running a one-man-show. Everybody must follow his style,” he said.

“The project was well kept until (Kedah Gerakan Youth Chief) Tan Keng Liang and the media expose about it recently,” Huan added.

Tan has raised his concerns in his blog posts highlighting on the possible environmental crisis due to the solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing plant.

Huan said he will be organising an awareness campaign for the people in Batu Kawan to highlight the issue and getting the state government to reconsider pursuing the project.

As most of the people in Batu Kawan work as fishermen and operate marine-based business, Huan said pollution will affect their livelihood.

A blog post in Stop The Lies pointed out that the solar PV plant which Germany's company Robert Bosch GmbH plans to build in Batu Kawan, will be similar to a plant in Zhejiang province in China that was forced to close down due to health risks it posed to the local population.

Barisan Nasional lawmaker Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan on Wednesday demanded Lim to explain about it as a similar project in China was declared an environmental disaster.

Penang Gerakan leader Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nanalso questioned the Penang Government's sense of responsibility when it wants to build low-cost houses in the vicinity where the approved solar panel plant will be located.

Dr Teng said given the fact that the project's impact towards humans and environment has been raised as a matter of dire concern there is a need to reconsider allowing the solar PV industry going.

Penang state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh in response to the criticisms dared Dr Teng and Abdul Rahman to give evidence on allegations that the project is hazardous.

In a news report on Thursday, Invest Penang committee chairman Datuk Lee Kah Choon said the state has always ensured its directions in promoting the solar PV industry is consistent with that of the Federal policies.
